There was a big-ass fucking spider in the laundry room And you called me down so that I could squish it for you So I did, and you cried And you hugged me with tears in your eyes You were seven and I was nine I would kill that bug again, any day Never thought spiders were cool anyway When the family cat died one night unexpectedly I offered to come help bury the kitty So I did, it was fine I wasn’t happy but I didn’t cry You were twenty-three, I was twenty-five I would dig that hole again, any day I’m more of a dog person anyway When we were kids we used to fight and talk our shit I guess we turned out more alike than we’d admit We were changing the words to the hymns during church We were causing a scene in the store Can’t take us anywhere anymore I would change those words again, any day Never liked going to church, anyway

Blood Ritual 03:07
I was cruising down the road in my Honda civic When I came upon a scene I thought was quite weird There was a little boy strapped to a table Standing over him was a man with a beard I said “hey man, what’re you doing? That kid don’t seem like he’s having any fun” And he said “some dude in the sky’s so rude, He said I had to kill my first born son” and it’s a Blood ritual, it’s traditional Blood ritual, you wouldn’t understand Blood ritual, with the mystical We’re washing all the blood right off of our hands I was walking through the park, when it started raining money Two families partying up in the hills Young couple in the middle so happy Making bonfires out of dollar bills There were 150 people lining up for the buffet, so I walked up to some well dressed old man and said “hey, That looks expensive”, he said “it’s fine, Wait until you hear about my family line” and it’s a Blood ritual, it’s traditional Blood ritual, you wouldn’t understand Blood ritual, with the mystical We’re washing all the blood right off of our hands Make a daily ritual sacrifice You can do whatever if you dress up nice Sir, I know you’re worried, but have no fear We’ve been doing this for thousands of years

I’ve got a plan to get back at you For all of the things that you’ve done Things that are so unspeakable I can’t even write them down in a song But I don’t even need to elaborate You know exactly what you did You’re gonna ask me if I’m joking But I never kid I’ve been digging up all the dirty details on you Every personal or professional blunder Coming into view I’ve been connecting with your exes on LinkedIn, Talking to your neighbors’ moms Meeting up for pizza and a couple of drinks with your friends from your former job Scrolling through all the city records Trying to see what gives Maybe you over or underpaid by a few cents on your state taxes Or maybe you said something embarrassing At a work party years ago Whatever it is, I’ll figure it out And then the world will know The world will know All of the semesters that you didn’t make Dean’s List Every single middle school report card’s been sequenced At the end of the day Suffice it to say Nothing you’ve done is safe From my watchful gaze I’ve been digging up all the dirty details on you Every personal or professional blunder Coming into view I’ve been connecting with your exes on LinkedIn, Talking to your neighbors’ moms Meeting up for pizza and a couple of drinks with your friends from your former job

Don’t want to give into the numbness Worship a statue of Columbus Did I say something wrong? And they’re looking at you sideways When you’re cruising in the left lane But that’s another song When you see the Chevrolet cross That your savior Jesus died on It’s always blocking your way We’re dummies speeding to the red light Make the effort for a small bite What a waste of time Talk about it like you really care Water cooler with the vacant stares Like you did the crime When you see the Chevrolet cross That your savior Jesus died on It’s always blocking your way If you can make it to our Saturday The only day you get to live your way Then you’ll be fine Try to keep this in your little head You work for years and then you’re fuckin dead There’s no overtime When you see the Chevrolet cross That your savior Jesus died on It’s always blocking your way

Closet 00:50
Big man hiding in the closet There’s no way that you can stop it When you get home he’s gonna jump out and get you, baby Scary dude living in the basement It doesn’t matter how you plan for it When you go down there he’ll be waiting to get you, baby It’s in my head, it’s in my head In my head There’s nobody hiding under my bed That’s what I said, that’s what I said And now I’m dead

Oh sister please Forgive me Find it in your heart To look past all of my misdeeds Oh sister please Forgive me I’ve done wrong to you When I was a kid Smacked you on the head Made fun of your friends And I regret it now Now I’m a grown man Doing what I can Trying to make amends to you In the way that I know how Oh sister please Forgive me Find it in your heart To look past all of my misdeeds Oh sister please Forgive me I’ve done wrong to you When I was a child Poked you in the eye Tried to make you cry Every change I had Hit you with a broom Locked you in your room Made a great big ball of tape and I threw it at your face Oh sister please Forgive me Find it in your heart To look past all of my misdeeds Oh sister please Forgive me I’ve done wrong to you And I know that it’s not right This history of mine Other kids were outside Playing hide and seek I was following you around Calling you ugly Oh sister please Forgive me I’ve done wrong to you

Slower than molasses Fogging up my glasses Using all my rations All right Exercise my small heart Body like a Wal-Mart Skipping to the good part Aw yeah Love isn’t really around Like it’s Silicon Valley, we put it in the cloud Conveniently available, download and out Until we drop into the next town Every day’s a Monday Mean it in a fun way Go to work and get paid Yeah right Taking to the pavement Asking how your day went Make another payment Aw man Love isn’t really around Like it’s Silicon Valley, we put it in the cloud Conveniently available, download and out Until we drop into the next town

about

Making an album is like a digging a giant hole. Sometimes it comes out perfect and shapely. Sometimes you realize, a la Stanley Yelnats, that you need to move your dirt pile or risk screwing up all your progress. It is an often frustrating but usually rewarding process that, at this point in Low Ceilings' musical existence, is akin to yard work - every so often, you just gotta do it.
