Grass is Greener
03:22
|
|||
We learn to work in the yard
Return with scars on our arms
Glowing when daylight is gone
Knowing your father looks on
They say the grass is always greener when
You gain a flower, lose a friend
You till the soil, save the ground,
you grow the tree, you cut it down
/Replace my voice with yours
I am not speaking anymore/
Garden the beds in the sun
Pardon the sadness that comes
Heat's mild, enjoy while it lasts
Run wild with dogs of the past
They're out here, buried in the yard
You can picture them, it's not too hard
You till the soil, save the ground,
you grow the tree, you cut it down
/Replace my voice with yours
I am not speaking anymore /

Ordinary Together
02:49
|
|||
Things change, but the story’s the same
I will always be clumsy,
you won’t miss much, and
Someday when I break all the plates
I will buy us new plates
and I will never touch them
Tripping over air
into your arms again
Getting home from work
and stumbling to you
is all I need to do
Everybody says they’re different,
but nobody is — we’re ordinary together
Everybody says they’ll find a niche,
and that’s when it hits
so we’re taking our domestic measures
I can’t wait to sit on the couch
and talk about, talk about,
talk about, talk about
I can’t wait to sit on the couch
and talk about, talk about,
talk about, talk about
These days we’ve been making the grade
we’re just trying to survive,
stay alive, make ends meet
Replay all the scenes in my brain
of all the times it was quiet,
calm, and lovely
You’re crashing though the door
to turn on the TV,
sit awake in silence,
and just slowly fall asleep with me
Everybody says they’re different,
but nobody is — we’re ordinary together
Everybody says they’ll find a niche,
and that’s when it hits
so we’re taking our domestic measures
I can’t wait to sit on the couch
and talk about, talk about,
talk about, talk about
I can’t wait to sit on the couch
and talk about, talk about,
talk about, talk about
Things change, but the story’s the same
I will always complain,
And I’ll be clumsy

Dog Walking
02:36
|
|||
Onto the sidewalk, out of the street
Walk in a straight line, right by my feet
Show me the things that I'm missing
Lift up your ear and listen
//
Don't pull
Don't run
Be cool
Have fun
//Sit//

Make the Grade
03:16
|
|||
You said
I gotta get it through my head
No matter what you promised then
It's never coming back
I know
It's getting kinda hard, it shows
The lines upon your face they grow
So I’ll cut you a little slack
‘Cause I don't want to make new stress
And I don't want to second guess
All of the things that you know
You feel
That it's not always such a great big deal
We have our differences about what's real
And that's what makes us whole
I find
It's always easier the second time
‘Cause when you finally think you've crossed that line
I know there's still a bit to go
So I don't want to be a pain
And I don't want to play that game
All the time every day
And I know that we’ll both behave
We’re just out here trying to make the grade
All the time every day

The Worst Times
03:33
|
|||
Friday, people gather near
You played when no one was here
Then some dude you never really liked
Plays a song at the open mic
A crowd forms and begins to cheer
It's the worst times
That define the alright
Rain falls just as daylight ends
Driving to go see some friends
On the way you go and get a flat
Why’s it always have to be like that?
Night’s gone, you’re alone again
It’s the worst times
That define the alright
Sometimes it makes you want to cry
Never got to say goodbye
Understand you never really know
When the ones you love are gonna go
Keep them in front of your mind
It’s the worst times
That define the alright
And it’s alright

Have You Ever?
03:38
|
|||
When mistakes fall like tinder
But there's no kindling to be seen
And you put in all your service
But the picture's not complete
Your boy scout bullshit doesn't work here
Your confidence won’t make it all clear
And it’s all, oh I wonder
Have you ever looked out
Oh I wonder
For somebody else?
Oh I wonder
When your blessings seem to dry up
But there’s no sinning to be seen
When your light turns to darkness
And misfortune reigns supreme
You try to figure out to what do
You’ve yet to see it’s not about you
And it’s all, oh I wonder
Have you ever looked out
Oh I wonder
For somebody else?
Oh I wonder
Between the walls and linoleum floors
Your outdoor skills don’t matter indoors
Your observations may not hold true
For people who aren’t right next to you
You treat your family well and that’s fine
It’s not a measure of how to be kind
The things you’ve said you never should say
Your job and pay don’t make it okay

Book Club
04:26
|
|||
Well the infrastructure’s crumbling
And we know the reason why
It’s the cult of the individual
Don’t care about the other guy
Where do we go?
Neighbors are foes
Stores are all closed
Culture exposed
We got these prophesizing platitudes
To summarize your worldly dealings
Because I met you on the internet
Don’t have to care about your feelings
Where do we go?
Neighbors are foes
Stores are all closed
Culture exposed
When you lie awake at night
Worshipping your terrible friends
And your phone is full of things
That you wish would come to an end
Do you wonder what went wrong?
‘Cause your bootstraps don’t look so bulky anymore
Your book club don’t look so brainy anymore
Your brunch date don’t look like breakfast anymore
Your best friend don’t seem so baller anymore
So if you’re handcuffed on your way to work
Well there’s nothing we can really do
We’ll have to hang our heads and go to church
We’ll have to text a couple hearts to you
When you lie awake at night
Worshipping your terrible friends
And your phone is full of things
That you wish would come to an end
Do you wonder what went wrong?
‘Cause your bootstraps don’t look so bulky anymore
Your book club don’t look so brainy anymore
Your brunch date don’t look like breakfast anymore
Your best friend don’t seem so baller anymore

Internet Forever
04:30
|
|||
Well I've been taking my vitamin c
And getting enough sleep, but I still feel sick
And I think it's cause I'm spending way too much time on the internet
And I don't know what I would do if I had that time back
But those horoscopes they make me choke and hack
Those horoscopes they make me feel real bad
Well I've been watching a little TV
And taking it easy on my back and feet
But I'm always feeling worn out, hammered down, half-there, and incomplete
And I don't know if it's because I spend my time online
But those other folks look like they're doing fine
Those other folks sure look like they’re alright
We’ve got an exit from our lives
We’ve got a tunnel, but it’s not very bright
Internet problems for internet times
Building internet worlds, living internet lives
I’m tryna get out more, I probably should
Wish I could internet my way to feeling good
Well I’ve making a big fool out of me
Feeling uneasy, like I can’t compete
And I think it’s ‘cause I’m trying to make my voice heard from across the street
And I don’t know if anyone will hear what I’ve got to say
But screaming it just makes me feel okay
I know screaming it won’t make it go away
Ultra-memetic, it feels so synthetic to me
Is the fool in the front-facing camera who I wanted to be?
I read every day, like the news,
all the ways that we try to reduce
nuanced issues to absolute truths
and we do
Internet problems for internet times
Building internet worlds, living internet lives
I’m tryna get out more, I probably should
Wish I could internet my way to feeling good

Leaving the Function
03:01
|
|||
// I had the worst time at your thing
So many people talking //
Stand in silence, read the room and
Understand the place for you, ‘cause
I’m just here to fill the space and
Clap along and show my face, but
I’ll just step outside
// I had the worst time at your show
I swear that I tried not to go //
Find a corner I can hide and
Why would you do that inside, ‘cause
I can’t stand the opening band
If you could hear you’d understand, but
I’ll just take my cue

Passenger Side

Night — as she drives
With light in her eyes
She’s got a clear angle
I’m half asleep
In the front seat
Listening to Pentangle
No cars on the road
We’re all alone
It’s just us two, chillin'
The chatter we make
Keeps us awake
Listening to Dylan
